🌋 Lessons from an Erupting Volcano and Business Growth 🌋

Last week, I had the privilege of experiencing something truly once-in-a-lifetime: witnessing an erupting volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii. The sight of the flowing lava and the mesmerizing glow against the dark sky was both breathtaking and humbling. As I stood there, surrounded by the power of nature, it made me reflect on lessons that can be applied not only to life but also to business and personal growth.

1. Seize the Unexpected Opportunities

Just like a volcanic eruption, opportunities often come when you least expect them. I had been to Hawaii before, but never during an eruption. On this trip, the chance to see an eruption presented itself unexpectedly, and I took it without hesitation. My colleague, on the other hand, chose to wait, thinking they might have another chance. But by the time they decided to go, the eruption had already stopped.

The lesson here: Don’t fall into the trap of analysis paralysis. When an opportunity presents itself, especially one that feels unique or fleeting, take it! Sometimes you only get one shot in life, so don’t waste time debating. Go for it. You’ll never know if you’ll get another chance.

    2. Focus on the Drive, Not the Distractions

During the trip, I had the chance to drive for four hours with three of the top 100 people in my business, collectively bringing 60 years of experience. We had a distraction-free environment, allowing me to ask questions, take notes, and absorb invaluable lessons. That quiet time allowed me to gain clarity, hear new perspectives, and unlock new ways of thinking.

In business, just like in driving, it’s essential to focus on the road ahead. No distractions. You don’t need to rush. Sometimes the most important things happen when you take a step back, clear your mind, and just focus on what truly matters.

    3. Be Willing to Go the Extra Mile

The drive to see the eruption was no easy feat: two hours each way, and we didn’t get back until 2 am. But, as with any great opportunity, sometimes you have to be willing to put in the extra effort and sacrifice to get the reward. It was an exhausting journey, but as we stood there watching the lava pour into the ocean, it was worth every mile.

In business, there are times when it takes extra time, energy, and effort to get to where you want to be. Don’t shy away from those moments. It’s the moments you go the extra mile that often lead to the most rewarding outcomes.

      Final Thought!

The volcano’s eruption reminded me that there is power in taking immediate action, focusing on what matters, and being ready to put in the work. Whether in business or life, the key to success is knowing when to act, who to learn from, and being prepared to go the distance.
